Yulia is a professional social and health researcher with international experience of designing, managing and performing qualitative, quantitative and mixed-methods research, evaluations and literature reviews in the areas of mental health, disability, later life, health services, addiction, knowledge transfer and cross-cultural communication. Yulia have a PhD in mental health from Dublin City University, an M.Sc. in Applied Social Research from Trinity College, University of Dublin and an MA in Teaching English to Speakers to Other Languages from the University of Northern Iowa, USA.
Yulia has eight years work experience the Irish public sector at the Health Research Board, one of the largest non-statutory health research funders in Ireland. While at the HRB Yulia worked on national health and social databases, such as NPIRS (National Psychiatric In-Patient Reporting System), NDTRS (national drug treatment reporting system), National Physical and Sensory Disability Database (NPSDD) and National Intellectual Disability Database (NIDD). Yulia’s qualitative projects included a study of needs and support requirements of families with mental health problems in Ireland, and a study of recovering from mental health problems from the point of view of those recovering in Ireland.
Yulia also worked as a Research & Development Manager for the Mental Health Foundation in London, one of the leading UK mental health charities working in collaboration with voluntary and statutory sector organisations, corporate and universities. Yulia’s job responsibilities included managing the team of junior researchers; designing projects, surveys and preparation of proposals for funding; commissioning; collecting and analysing data; disseminating research results through written reports, publications and presentations and providing research support across the organisation.
Yulia is a founding director of Applied Research Consultancy Limited in London which provides independent social research and evaluation services in the areas of mental health, health and wellbeing, disability, social policy, equality and diversity and research ethics. She is also a member of the Editorial Board of the SRA quarterly magazine Research Matters.
