Dr. Pamela Campanelli is a Survey Methods Consultant and U.K. Chartered Statistician and Chartered Scientist. She received her Ph.D. in statistics from the London School of Economics, and an M.A. in survey research methods and B.A. in psychology from the University of Michigan. Prior to becoming an independent consultant, she was a Research Associate at the at the University of Michigan, a Survey Statistician at the U.S. Bureau of the Census, Chief Research Officer at the UK Institute for Social and Economic Research at the University of Essex, and a Research Director at the Survey Methods Centre at the National Centre for Social Research, London. Her main interests and publications are in the study of survey error and data quality issues, with special emphasis on questionnaire design, question testing strategies, interviewing techniques, survey nonresponse, survey sampling and survey analysis. In addition to her consultancy work, she has been a team member of a recent UK ESRC grant to explore measurement error in mixed mode surveys and led an ESRC grant on survey nonresponse. She regularly teaches short courses in the UK for the Centre for Applied Social Surveys (CASS), the Cathie Marsh Institute for Social Research (CMIST), the Social Research Association (SRA), and the Royal Statistical Society (RSS). She also provides courses both in the UK and internationally for government departments (e.g., Australian Bureau of Statistics, BFS Switzerland, Statistics South Africa), UK Survey Research companies (e.g., TNS-BMRB, Ipsos-MORI), universities (e.g., University of Wollongong Australia, University of Hong Kong, Academic Swiss Caucasus Net (ASCN), Monash University Malaysia, University of Michigan Summer Institute programme linked to the Joint Program in Survey Methodology), as well as for various other institutions and businesses (e.g., Brazilian Network Information Center; UNESCO Asia Pacific, RAND Europe) (see http://www.thesurveycoach.com).
Chrysalis Research is a thriving research agency specialising in education and health.
We formed Chrysalis Research in 2010 to support organisations looking to achieve their goals through having a positive social impact in the education and health sectors. Our core team of six mixed-method researchers has extensive experience of education and health research and policy, and a strong understanding of the education and health sectors’ audiences. As a team, we have a great deal of experience conducting research with a range of audiences who use and work within the education and skills sectors, including teachers, opinion leaders, adult learners, young people and employers.
Our research helps inform planning, implementation and evaluation across a number of different areas:
• The public sector – policy development, consultations, funding decisions and communications planning.
• The commercial sector – qualifications and product development, the development and evaluation of corporate social responsibility activity.
• The voluntary sector – strategic review, identifying fundraising opportunities, designing and evaluating public engagement or awareness campaigns.
We handle research projects from briefing stage to reporting. We can also support the dissemination of findings and advise on the implementation of communication campaigns, interventions and policy initiatives.
Cornish and Grey set up as a social enterprise in 2015 with the mission to help small and medium social purpose organisations articulate their social value and to measure and communicate it – both internally (helping them learn and grow) and externally (helping gain and retain funding). Ongoing evaluation contracts include:
· Pilotlight – a charity that provides capacity support to charities that help disadvantaged people. We have developed the organisation’s current monitoring and evaluation strategy over a number of years and provide ongoing support guidance and training to its project managers. Our aim is to ensure that project managers collect data using tools that are integrated into project activities (ie. supporting them with a self-evaluation process).
· We are the ongoing independent impact evaluators of the C&A Foundation’s international ‘Inspiring World’ campaign. Since 2015, we have conducted annual pre and post campaign research and follow up focus groups in a number of different countries including China, Brazil, Mexico and a number of European countries.
· Pause works with women who have experienced, or are at risk of, repeated pregnancies that result in children needing to be removed from their care. We have helped them scope the need for their offer in new areas and provide ongoing support to help them evaluate – and communicate the effectiveness of – their existing programme. This work has involved building models of cashable savings and examining the potential for system change within partners of the programme.
